It is reported that the government has begun to set up censorship system against the Internet content. This news has immediately come into the focus of public discussions and controversies. As with many other newly emerged things, people hold different opinions towards the issue of Internet censorship. (47)
On one hand, a majority of people argue that if online censorship is executed, people will lose the freedom of speech. It is well known that the net has provided a powerful platform for people to speak freely. Censorship, no doubt, may violate this freedom. Besides, people also doubt that the censorship may block the information exchange, which is vital to the existence of Internet. On the other hand, however, people who support this censorship system hold that a more healthy online environment can be achieved by means of regulations. Since children have become regular users of the net, censorhip can help protect them from being polluted by those unhealthy contents on the net. (114)
Though it is hard to decide which sounds more convincing, i strongly believe that the censorship does more good than harm to our society. Therefore, we should advocate stricter measures to be made by the authorities. Besides, if the public is to accept this system, more education is urgently needed. (50 )
